Basilis G. Gatos was born in Athens, Greece. He received his Electrical Engineering Diploma and his Ph.D. degree, both from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Democritus University of Thrace, Xanthi, Greece. His Ph.D. thesis is on Optical Character Recognition Techniques. In 1993 he was awarded a scholarship from the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications, NCSR "Demokritos", where he worked till 1996. From 1997 to 1998 he worked as a Software Engineer at Computer Logic S.A. From 1998 to 2001 he worked at Lambrakis Press Archives as a Director of the Research Division in the field of digital preservation of old newspapers. From 2001 to 2003 he worked at BSI S.A. as Managing Director of R&D Division in the field of document management and recognition. He is currently working as a Researcher at the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National Center for Scientific Research "Demokritos", Athens, Greece. His main research interests are in Image Processing and Document Image Analysis, OCR and Pattern Recognition. He has more than 150 publications in journals and international conference proceedings and has participated in several research programs funded by the European community. He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece, of the Editorial Board of the International Journal on Document Analysis and Recognition (IJDAR) and program committee member of several international Conferences and Workshops (e.g. ICDAR, ICFHR, DAS, International Workshop on Historical Document Imaging and Processing). Basiis Gatos was co-organiser of the 14th International Conference of Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition (ICFHR) as well as of the 12th International Workshop on Document Analysis Systems (DAS) that were held in Greece in 2014 (Crete) & 2016 (Santorini).

Panagiotis Kaddas is a programmer and research associate with specialized expertise in signal processing and Artificial Intelligence. Since 2016, he has served as the Head of the R&D and Artificial Intelligence department at InDigital S.A., where he leads the design and development of Python-based systems for object detection, tracking, and Optical Character Recognition (OCR). In addition to his corporate leadership, he is a co-founder of Astros Intelligence P.C. and AI4DOC P.C., both established in May 2025. Currently a PhD candidate at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, his research focuses on document digital recognition and analysis, with a special emphasis on Greek typewritten and handwritten manuscripts. He previously earned an M.Sc. in Signal Processing and a Diploma in Informatics from the same institution. Mr. Kaddas combines technical proficiency with management experience, having coordinated implementation teams and analyzed EU and national co-funded projects with budgets exceeding 9 million euros. He has published over 10 articles in peer-reviewed journals and conferences on topics including Machine Learning, document image analysis, and the application of Large Language Models (LLMs) to OCR.

Aikaterini Christopoulou is a geologist with two masters, one in Ecology and Biodiversity Management and one in Chemistry, Technology and Environmental Management, at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Currently, she is a PhD candidate at the Department of Economics and Sustainable Development at Harokopio University of Athens. She is a member of the Document Image Analysis group of the Computational Intelligence Laboratory, Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications, National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos”. Her PhD research focuses on the historical landscape change using modelling techniques and AI tools, exploiting historical census and spatial data. She has worked in both public and private sector bodies concerning research programmes as well as project management. She is also co-founder of the spin-off “AI4DOC” of NCSR “Demokritos”. Her main expertise involves spatial analysis, artificial intelliegence and the use of GIS.
